The popularity of the XV of France is only growing. Against New Zealand, the Blues scored a prestigious victory (30-29) this Saturday, November 16 at the Stade de France. But beyond sporting success, it’s also a superb performance for TF1.
''A Classic'', ''Heroics'', etc. The world press in ecstasy after France – All Blacks
Audiences in record mode
A prime time, the meeting attracted no less than 7.3 million viewers on average in front of their televisions. At peak audience, the France – All Blacks clash brought together 8.3 million spectators.

In apnea, supporters are capsized on Twitter in front of the incredible victory of the XV of France against the All Blacks
Moreover, the channel claims that this is an audience record for a test match between France and New Zealandtherefore excluding the World Cup. While the French XV had already attracted almost 5 million curious spectators on average against Japan, this new success surpasses the habits of the last autumn tours.
In addition, Europe's leading channel recorded its best audience of the year, excluding Euro 2024, with the clash between the Beauden Barrett gang and that of Antoine Dupont. Logically, the success of the Blues of Galthié in a test match is no match for the European adventure of those of Deschamps in official competition.
TF1, new rugby channel?
With such success, TF1 could soon launch its new strategy around the French XV. For good reason, the first channel would like to acquire the rights to the VI Nations Tournament in the coming years. Currently, France Télévision has the rights to the European competition until next spring.
However, according to information relayed by L'Équipe, the first channel wanted to take the temperature this fall. Initially, the rights to the entire competition would only interest it moderately and it would like to broadcast only the matches of the XV of France, something impossible. So, will the game be worth it for TF1?
