Deschamps evokes Mbappé’s “fragile psychological state”

Since the start of Kylian Mbappé's struggles with the team, Didier Deschamps has spent a lot of energy saying as little as possible about what his captain is going through, adrift since his transfer to Real last summer. But for Téléfoot, Sunday, the coach agreed to develop the subject a little, admitting that Mbappé was in a “psychological state which is fragile”.

“He is in a complicated situation, yes, but that does not take away what he has done, and that he is supposed to find everything he was able to do very well, even if he too, over the year 2024, he was less effective,” Deschamps began by saying, before discussing, under friendly pressure from his friend Bixente Lizarazu, the reasons why his player is going through a complicated period.

“The environment is different because there is exposure… Today, the smallest word… Social networks and then the sequence (of matches). I spoke with some of my players, after a competition like the Euro, having barely three weeks (of rest), you find it difficult to recover. The demands are getting higher and higher. »

“It is the head that controls the legs”

“Each time you have to, you have to, you have to and then sometimes it doesn’t respond or it responds less well,” continues DD. And there may be a psychological state…. Going as far as depression, I don't know, but a psychological state that is fragile. It is the head that controls the legs. »

It is therefore still without his “Kyky” that Deschamps attacks Italy, Sunday evening, in the League of Nations, to close a year 2024 marked by boredom and depression. It will then be time for everyone to have a good time with the selection and to redo their icing at the club, before returning to the Blues for the quarter-finals of the League of Nations which will take place in March 2025.
