The two former TGB teammates will meet again this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. for the Tarbes-Lyon duel.
Associated all last season under the same purple jersey of the TGB Jess-Mine Zodia and Dominique Malonga find themselves, at 3:30 p.m., opposed during the duel at the Quai de l’Adour, counting for 6e day of La Boulangère Wonderligue.
We remember that barely 18 years old, the latter was one of the players in François Gomez’s squad to take the TGB to two semi-finals (championship and French Cup) which allowed her to being elected best young person LFB for the 2023-2024 season and to appear in the five major LFB 2023-2024.
Since then, although the paths of the two players have separated, Dominique Malonga having joined his training club Asvel, the two young women have remained very friends.
To the point that the last gathering of the French team allowed the two young women to meet again during an international window where the pivot of the TGB already European champion with the French U20 team in Lithuania (July 6 to 14) , honored his first selection with France A.
“Dominique, it’s the Lyon player who will have to be blocked”
The championship resuming its rights, the two interiors find themselves, therefore, in Tarbes where Dominique Malonga will be expected as THE player of this meeting with a title of Olympic vice-champion this summer and after having been elected “MVP” at the start of season by compiling 15.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 2 blocks for 21.2 evaluation in 24 minutes during the first 5 days.
Add that she was also the first player to dunk in an official match during ASVEL’s victory against AEL Solemare (115-54) in the Eurocup and you will understand why the Lyon leader will have to be locked out if the TGB wants to win for the second time in a row: “Dominique, it is the Lyon player who will have to be blocked to win. We will do everything for it. If we can’t stop him from shooting, we’ll have to make the match more complicated for him,” confirmed Jess-Mine Zodia on this subject.
Happy birthday Dominique!
Coincidentally with the calendar, it is having celebrated his 19th birthday the day before that Dominique Malonga will return to his former Tarbes club where he will undoubtedly be given a warm welcome.
But, also, a surprising gift since Jess-Mine Zodia confided, not without humor: “She’s a friend but when we’re on the field, we just want to win. There will be a challenge because she too will want to win . Her gift will be that she loses in Tarbes (laughs).”
Well packaged, it would allow the Tarbaises to escape from the soft underbelly of the ranking, but be careful because Dominique Malonga will also want to treat herself to a nicer birthday present.
