: Frenchwoman Jessika Ponchet joins Olympique

A great recruit for the Olympic women’s team. Jessika Ponchet, French number 7 and 106th in the WTA international ranking, is competing this season in team matches with the Biarritz team which has reached the pro B championship. Trained in Capbreton in the Landes by Nathalie Tauzia (finalist of the Wimbledon tournament in 1998) the 28-year-old tricolor does not shy away from her pleasure of playing as a team with her friends on the fields of Biarritz Olympique which she knows well. “It’s been more than ten years since I last played in a team, and that’s a change from everyday life on the circuit where you’re really very alone” explains the champion who revealed herself to the general public by reaching the third round of the Us Open in New York last summer.

Play at home

Jessika Ponchet was born on September 26, 1996 in and played her first ITF (International Tennis Federation) tournaments at the age of 14 in 2011. She has won, to date, 10 singles and 15 doubles titles. She discovers Grand Slam tournaments during the Australian Open in 2018 thanks to an invitation.

In Biarritz, the young woman has the feeling of playing “the house“. “It’s true that I prioritize the region first” insists Jessika Ponchet. The BO is delighted, especially since it has also allocated the services of the young Carole Monnet, 22 years old, number 19 in the national ranking and 242nd in the WTA (Women’s Tennis Association).
