The Montreal Canadiens scored four unanswered goals starting in the second period to sign a 5-1 victory against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday at the Bell Centre.
Nick Suzuki, Lucas Condotta, Jake Evans and Josh Anderson contributed to this offensive surge that sank the Blue Jackets.
Mike Matheson was the other scorer, Cole Caufield registered two assists and Samuel Montembeault made 25 saves for the Canadiens (6-10-2), who obtained their second victory in three games after a series of six defeats (0 -5-1).
Dante Fabbro was the only scorer for the Blue Jackets (6-9-2), who defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-2 on Friday to end a six-game losing streak (0-5-1). Goaltender Daniil Tarasov gave up five times on 30 shots.
Matheson opened the scoring just 4:59 into the first period on a power play. He fired a powerful slapshot from the top of the circles.
Fabbro tied the score 1-1 at 7:40 of the second period with a point shot that found its way through traffic. The defenseman, who scored his first goal of the season, was claimed off waivers from the Nashville Predators last Sunday.
Suzuki gave CH a one-goal lead again at 15:49. He cut between the circles before surprising Tarasov with a low wrist shot from the glove side.
Condotta scored his first goal of the season at 11:04 of the final period to make it 3-1 Canadians. He fired after receiving a pass from Joel Armia near the left circle.
Evans made it 4-1 at 12:52. He completed a pass from Caufield from the corner of the ice by advancing to the right side of the net.
Anderson redirected a Matheson point shot at 15:55 to make it 5-1 during a 4-on-4.
Defenseman David Savard was removed from the lineup at the last minute due to an upper-body injury. Jayden Struble replaced him.
