N3M, 9th day, CS Bayeux Basket-Ball – Cherbourg Basket-Ball: 72-88. Undefeated since the opening of the National 3 championship, the first men’s team of CS Bayeux Basket expected a big match facing his dolphin, this Saturday November 16, 2024. And she took matters into her own hands by entering the floor of the Mainini room. A room heated to white heat by the Bajokop. The supporters created “a great mess” to put pressure on the Cherbourg residents.
A courageous half-time for Bayeux
The men of Michael Dejardin knew how to keep hungry visitors in check. +4 after 10 minutes (19-15). +3 at the break (45-42). While Cherbourg had taken the upper hand momentarily, Bayeux did not give up return to the mark and take the lead in the 20th minute.
But we felt that the meeting could swing in favor of the players of the north Cotentin. When we returned from the locker room, we were certain of it. Ineffective insideBayeux also missed his attempts at shooting from distance. It was like nothing wanted to come in. Losses of balls offered additional opportunities to a team of Cherbourg who then recited his Basketball and irremediably took off on the clock.
Result, Bayeux sank to -7 in the third quarter (72-88) and sank for good in the final period, with 16 points behind at the scoreboard (72-88) at the buzzer.
Difficult to take for a hitherto undefeated leader. But Bayeux simply didn’t have the weapons. Physically dominated, the locals were able to resist for a half before Cherbourg confirmed his status as favorite for the climb.
At the end of this 9th day of the championship, Cherbourg and Bayeux are tied on points in the standings (17). Thanks to its statistics, Cherbourg takes the first place occupied until now by CS Bayeux.
“This defeat must serve us”
“I think we are in the match in the first half, but we made too many individual errors to open up a bigger gap which would have done us good mentally. » Leaving the locker room, the Bayeusain coach Michael Dejardin is lucid about the performance of his players.
“Cherbourg had a very good match. With great skill, they played to their strengths while we lowered the flag a little quickly. We couldn’t score (Editor’s note: 45 points scored in the first 20 minutes, 27 in the rest of the match) and it was morally tough. We gave them a lot of second chances on shots too. In attack as in defense, we lacked discipline in our game. Basketball is a sport of skill: when you don’t put in, it’s harder to defend! And physically, they really hurt us. »
Also lucid about the championship: “It’s a defeat, not the end of the world, nor the end of the championship. The idea is to reach the truce with just one defeat. We need to pull ourselves together in the last three matches before Christmas. We will have complicated trips in the second part of the season, like in Quimper and Brest. Cherbourg will also have difficult matches to play. Everything is still playable. We had a great dynamic and we were a little euphoric. Considering the teams we have played so far, Cherbourg undoubtedly has the status of favorite. This defeat must serve us. We have to get up and if we can tickle them a little it could be cool! As for tonight, it was a great basketball celebration. »

An evening in favor of the Telethon and a tribute to Bertrand Genest
A little more than 600 spectators gathered in the Mainini room, that’s a lot of people! And the leaders of CS Bayeux Basket – despite themselves – caused some discontent this Saturday evening by refusing people at the entrance to the gymnasium.
On the occasion of this shock at the top of pool E of N3CS Bayeux has set up a ticket office (€2) to support theAFM-Téléthon. €1,152 was thus collected to help research against rare diseases.
The club is renewing this participation in the Telethon since 1998. Year in which Bayeux was a center for pledges. And in the ranks of the Bayeux club, there was since then a Mr. Telethon: Bertrand Genest.
Unmissable figure of the CSB which he had chaired for a dozen years and from which he was dismissed since 1972tireless volunteer, Bertrand Genest died on September 18 at the age of 68 ans. This evening, his loved ones and basketball enthusiasts, like him, were gathered to pay tribute to him.
Two banners were unfurled under the billboard. One bearing the name of Bertrand Genest (#8 1955-2024) and the other that ofYvan Mainini (#9 1944-2018).
Bajocasse licensed at CSB, former president of the FFBB and FIBAYvan Mainini died in 2018. The municipality then had renamed the Coubertin room to pay tribute to this native of Bayeux who led the greatest basketball authorities.
