City of Morges – Morges inaugurates its renovated and enlarged Chanel College

The City of Morges inaugurated the new Chanel College with open days this Friday, November 15. After 2 years of work, the new infrastructure has welcomed more than 400 students since the last school year. The two sports halls, also benefiting the clubs, were named in the names of Morgian personalities.

The Chanel College, very important in the heart of the Morgian population, now includes 22 classrooms as well as specialized science, music, crafts and sewing rooms and support rooms. The new sports facilities, meeting the needs of schools and sports clubs, include 2 indoor gymnastics rooms and their changing rooms as well as outdoor fields. The administrative teams and school management of the Morges Est school establishment are also located in the building.

Construction durable

During the planning and implementation of this project, numerous sustainable approaches were put in place, such as the reuse of materials, the use of wood for the frames of the gymnasiums and the conservation of part of the existing building. . In line with the 2035 Energy Strategy of the City of Morges, heat production will be ensured by the CAD developed by Morges Energies SA. The roofs of the building are covered with photovoltaic panels. In addition, collecting rainwater and using it to flush toilets helps preserve water resources.

Concerning the exterior landscaped spaces, particular attention was paid to the revegetation of these spaces (planting of 112 trees and 530 shrubs), included in the Arborization Strategy of the City of Morges. The choice of clear, non-bituminous exterior coverings helps combat heat islands. Finally, fun wooden installations create play areas, particularly suitable for younger children.

Named sports halls

The two new gymnasiums will double the provision for the school and Morgien sports clubs. The Municipality has chosen to name the rooms after two local personalities: Suzanne Meyer room and Roger “Titi” Fehlbaum room. Suzanne Meyer, born in 1942 and resident of the Chanel district, was a pioneer in the integration of women within the Morgian gymnastics society. The late Roger Fehlbaum, nicknamed “Titi”, was an elite gymnast, also very active within the Morgian gymnastics society. He trained nearly 14,000 students at Collège de Chanel as a sports instructor.

Open doors

An “open house” afternoon was organized this November 15, to offer the population, parents and former students the opportunity to discover the building. Cultural and sporting events delighted young and old audiences alike.
