48 hours before the trip to Nort-sur-Erdre (Loire-Atlantique), for the Gambardella Cup match – one of the regional finals -, Montaigu Foot coach Vincent Richard took a few minutes to West France.
His group
“In Gambardella, we try to have the best possible team. My collective is therefore made up of a mix of U17 and U18 players. In the championship, on the other hand, they play in their age categories. With Charles (Dumont, the U17 coach), we try to help them progress like this. It’s a real choice on our part. We feel the potential of both formations…”
His take on the start of the season for both teams
“The U17 first team finished at the top of their group during phase 1. There, in the upper division, they are two wins in two games. On the U18 side, we had a difficult start, with three defeats. It was then a little better with a victory and a draw, before our defeat in Sables-d’Olonne (2-0) last Saturday. The Gambardella did us good mentally…”
The opposition against Nort-sur-Erdre
“This team seems mainly made up of U17s. They are evolving in R2, it’s a good generation. In my eyes, it’s 50-50. The meeting should be quite open. If we qualify for the federal round, it will be historic! In the previous round, we achieved a real feat, taking out Carquefou (0-0, 4-3 tab). This is the third time in a row that we’ve gone to penalties… Our goalkeeper? It’s Milan Leclair (smile). »
The objectives of the season
“The objective for the U17s is to move up two levels (from departmental level to regional 2). For now, they are in good timing. They prove our strategy at the start of the season right. If they manage to access R2, they will stay together. If they fail to move up, a few should join the U18 team. The objective, for the second phase, will therefore be maintenance. »
