On the sidelines of the match between Greece and England in the League of Nations, more than muscular exchanges took place between the Greek police and the English supporters. In support of its supporters, the English Federation announced that it was opening an investigation to obtain more details on what happened.
“Dangerous and unjustifiable situations”
3,500 supporters traveled to Athens to encourage their team to regain the lead in Group B in the Nations League. If they were able to be satisfied with the result with their team’s 3-0 victory, they will especially remember what happened on the sidelines of the match. Confronted by the police, many fans had to face tear gas, but also riot shields before the match. Means used by the local police which do not pass through to the English federation.
“We are aware that some of our supporters have had a difficult experience off the field and we are working to obtain more information on what exactly happened”said one of the FA spokespersons. A group of popular supporters, the Free Lionsalso asked on social networks that the fans present on site send “their testimonies regarding the situation outside the Athens Olympic Stadium. […] On a night where we achieved an excellent result on the pitch, there is clearly much more to be done off it to ensure our supporters do not find themselves in dangerous and unjustifiable situations. »
