CNews ordered to pay 150,000 euros in fines by Arcom – Libération

Two programs from the channel owned by billionaire Vincent Bolloré were subject to fines of 100,000 and 50,000 euros due to breaches noted by Arcom, the audiovisual regulator, on Thursday November 14.

The PAF repeat offender once again caught by the patrol. The CNews channel was fined 150,000 euros by Arcom on Thursday, November 14, following comments broadcast during two different programs.

The first sanction of 100,000 euros concerns the issuance In search of spirit broadcast on February 25, 2024. On the air, abortion was described as “leading cause of death in the world”. The channel of ultra-conservative billionaire Vincent Bolloré had apologized in the face of the indignation aroused by such comments. In its argument, Arcom recalls that “abortion cannot be presented as a cause of mortality” and therefore points to a “manifest inaccuracy” Who “was not the subject of any contradiction from the other people present on set”.

The second fine of 50,000 euros is linked to the issue Morandini Live dated September 28, 2023. A subject was thus introduced in these terms: “Parents of Muslim students put pressure on the management of a college in to provide prayer rooms for students during a school trip to the Pyrenees”. Arcom considered that the facts were “inaccurate”had not been the subject of “sufficient checks” and “did not give rise to oratorical precautions”.

C8 before the Council of State

The announcement of these fines comes in a context where C8, another channel in the Bolloré galaxy, is playing big this Friday, November 15 by contesting before the Council of State the decision of Arcom to oust it from TNT at the end of February 2025 . C8, which notably hosts TPMP (“Touche pas à mon poste”), host Cyril Hanouna’s flagship show, launched a support petition at the end of last week, which has already gathered more than 600,000 signatures.

For its part, the channel has accumulated 7.6 million euros in fines in recent years, due to Cyril Hanouna’s slip-ups in TPMP. His insults towards the deputy of La insoumise (LFI) Louis Boyard in November 2022 earned the channel a record fine of 3.5 million euros from Arcom. Cyril Hanouna’s trial for public insults was to open at the judicial court this Tuesday, November 12, but was ultimately postponed to December 17, at the request of the civil party, due to a calendar incompatibility.
