NFL: even if he is disappointed with his performance, Aaron Rodgers still intends to play in 2025

Even though he is posting some of the worst statistics of his illustrious career, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is not deviating from his plan: he intends to play the 2025 season.

This was revealed on Wednesday by the New York Jets veteran, who will celebrate his 41st birthday in 19 days.

“I think I will be there next year, Yeah “, he blurted.

It’s not the most earth-shattering statement, perhaps because he doesn’t know if organizational decisions among the Jets could change the situation.

During the last off-season, Rodgers mentioned wanting to play “two, three or four more seasons”.

He declared that the disappointing season experienced by New York (3-7) was not enough to make him change his mind.

“Not really, the negative didn’t reach me,” he maintained.

Rodgers, who is returning this year from Achilles tendon surgery, has been bothered in recent months by hamstring, knee and ankle soreness, but has not missed a game.

The quadruple MVP » during his years with the Green Bay Packers is obviously not playing up to his usual level. He comes in 24th out of 32 quarterbacks considered starters in terms of efficiency rating (Total QBR), with his 15 touchdown passes, 7 interceptions, and an average of 6.4 yards per pass attempt, the lowest of his career. .

“I’m not playing as well as I would have liked, that’s for sure,” Rodgers agreed.

“The beauty of this sport is that it’s a team affair. The frustrating part is that if you’re a competitor, you want to live up to the standards you have for yourself. This year, I did not meet these standards. »

Rodgers is under contract for the 2025 campaign, but no financial compensation is guaranteed by the Jets.

To bring him back behind the center, the New Yorkers will have to exercise a $35 million option as a bonus amount. He also has a base salary of $2.5 million.

In terms of the salary cap, the Jets would do well, however, by retaining the services of Rodgers, at a salary accounting for $23.5 million towards the team’s total for 2025.

On Wednesday, Rodgers expressed optimism once again, saying “the curtain hasn’t come down on this season yet” even though his club is 3-7 for the first time since he’s been in the NFL.

The Jets, who were dominated 31-6 by the Arizona Cardinals in their last outing, will face the Indianpolis Colts (4-6) Sunday at MetLife Stadium.
