“A lack of open-mindedness”: Koundé on criticism of the Blues’ outfits upon arrival at Clairefontaine

It has become an unmissable event at every French team gathering, and which each time arouses strong reactions: the arrival at Clairefontaine. Some players have in fact gotten into the habit of taking on the challenge of whoever wears the best outfit. And it was a Blues executive himself who decided to broach the subject once again. In an extract from “The Bridge”, the show he has hosted on YouTube since the start of the year, Aurélien Tchouaméni questioned his teammates Ousmane Dembélé and Jules Koundé.

“We saw a controversy last time in the selection…” says the Real Madrid midfielder, who was also absent from the last meeting due to an ankle injury. And continues: “regarding the fact that we, the players of the team, are starting to go a little overboard with the outfits we wear. » “Not me,” Ousmane Dembélé immediately retorts with a smile, as if to dissociate himself. “I know that now, people are looking forward to it, to know how I’m going to arrive, what style,” continues Jules Koundé, vintage Sochaux jersey on his back. If I’m going to be eccentric or not…”

“Did you see how things went in the last selection?,” adds Ousmane Dembélé. Someone arrived in a mask, that’s you! », he laughs, pointing out the FC Barcelona defender as responsible for this “competition” between the Blues players.

Asked about what they felt when reading the reactions of certain observers and other journalists, the players assured that it no longer “affects” them. “I think there are ways of doing things,” continues Jules Koundé. Often, very often in the media, it’s done in a disrespectful way. I think everyone comes as they feel. For me it’s just a lack of open-mindedness. From time to time it’s good to respond to make your point of view heard. »
