This season, in the Pro League, there is only one team that systematically fills its stadium, RSC Anderlecht. Supporters regularly complain about the game on offer, but they remain loyal to their team. Surprising fact, in this ranking: Club Brugge is only sixth!
Sporting Anderlecht announced this Wednesday that their next home match, against La Gantoise, was sold out. This is the seventh time in as many possibilities that this will happen, since the Mauves played their first meeting behind closed doors, against Saint-Trond. A fairly unique 100% fill rate, even better than last season’s 96.5%, which already placed the Mauve et Blanc supporters among the best in class.
Antwerp and Union are doing well
We are also seeing a trend. At almost all clubs, attendance is slightly higher than last season. Bosuil is 88.2% full, Den Dreef is 83.6% and at Union they are experiencing the biggest increase: 81.5% in the first seven home matches compared to only 67.2% last season .
Genk ranks fifth with 81.3% of its stadium occupied. It is quite remarkable to see that Club Brugge never manages to completely fill Jan Breydel. With 29,000 seats, they of course have the largest stadium in Belgium, but according to the figures, on average, 23,480 supporters take their seats there.
Jan Breydel no longer suits Bruges teams
In terms of pure data, however, the Club is the team which welcomes the most supporters in Belgium. The contrast with the city’s neighbor, the Circle, is therefore enormous. Cercle have a much smaller fan base and fill the Jan Breydel at just 18.2%, the smallest total in the championship. It is therefore high time that both clubs had their own stadium.
Not to mention the dilapidated state of the Jan Breydel. The Club could generate a lot more income by having decent lodges, for example. And on the Cercle side, the atmosphere would be much better with a smaller stadium, because the kop located behind the goal still knows how to make its voice heard.
Only six clubs recorded a sellout
A striking figure: apart from Anderlecht, only two clubs have managed to completely fill their stadium more than once: Antwerp and Dender. Genk, Kortrijk and Westerlo have a contested sold-out match.
The supporters of Sint-Truiden and Beerschot do not even occupy, on average, 50% of Stayen and Kiel. Charleroi narrowly did so with its Mambourg, symbol of a delicate sporting situation. Just like at Standard, which only fills its stadium to 66.4%, on average. The hell of Sclessin is far from its years of glory.
