“Don’t forget me. I see the end coming. It’s impossible. I want to believe in the word of the mayor of Vannes, but there is an emergency”! This is the call launched by Nolwenn Lanne-Petit, manager of the Vannes ice rink since 2020. The equipment created in 1992 has been closed since May 2023 following technical problems with the cooling system.
The town hall, owner of the walls, carried out an inventory following which work was decided, mainly the track and the machines and the installation of photovoltaic panels in the parking lot.
I’m afraid that someone will tell me: we’ll stop, we won’t do anything anymore. I’m afraid the rink will close. I did everything to make my dream come true. I don’t want it to last four years but 30 years.
A financial protocol had been put in place, according to which the town hall paid, until reopening, an envelope to the manager, including the payment of fixed charges and her remuneration. 18 months have passed and Nolwenn Lanne Petit has still not seen the start of the work and its financial protocol, renewed every six months after accounting, ends on December 31, 2024. “Which means that on January 1, I “I have no more protocol and no more money,” worries the Vannes-based mother of a little girl, today in the grip of financial difficulties.
35,000 entries per year
Beyond this sword of Damocles, it is her dream that Nolwenn Lanne-Petit fears will collapse. “I am very afraid that the town hall will not decide to carry out the work. At the town hall, I was told that budgets are tight and the ice rink is under discussion. I’m afraid that someone will tell me: we’ll stop, we won’t do anything anymore. I’m afraid the rink will close. I did everything to make my dream come true, says the former ringette champion. I don’t want it to last four years but 30 years.” She still believes in the future of the ice rink which welcomed 35,000 people per year until its closure, including many schoolchildren.
A petition
To raise awareness and move things forward, she launched the petition “For a reopening of the Vannes ice rink”, which has already collected 264 signatures. The manager would like to be received by David Robo, mayor of Vannes, to tell him that she still has the energy to continue: “This ice rink is my life. The mayor told me he would help me and I know he will keep his word. But this is too long. It’s urgent.”
For his part, the mayor of Vannes David Robo indicates that the manager of the ice rink will be received by the services at the end of the week. He specifies that it has already been received at the town hall on Tuesday, November 5.
