Puma: the new Lions jersey, a nod to local craftsmanship

Struck with the national star and inspired by traditional geometric zellige patterns, the new Atlas Lions tunic resonates as a tribute to Moroccan cultural identity.

It was on the tarmac of Rabat-Salé airport that the new Atlas Lions jersey was unveiled, with a backdrop of a long-haul aircraft from the official carrier of the national team, symbol of the long path traveled by Morocco to reach the last four during the last World Cup. The enthusiasm around this new tunic was not long in coming, fueled by the still vibrant memory of the national team’s epic during the World Cup in Qatar. Starting with the players of the selection.

“When I was little, I remember going around Casablanca to find a national team jersey. Today, thanks to the collective feat, this jersey is not only accessible, but above all has become an emblem of national pride,” confided Yassine Bounou, the goalkeeper of the national team.

The presentation of the jersey, attended by selected personalities, journalists and influencers, is part of a desire by the Royal Moroccan Federation (FRMF) to pay tribute to past exploits while breathing a breath of modernity. The result of a collaboration between the FRMF, Royal Air Maroc, the equipment manufacturer Puma and Planet Sport, the new tunic, much more than a simple piece of equipment, embodies a part of the Kingdom’s footballing history.

“Each element of this jersey is designed to recall the tenacity of the Atlas Lions,” explains Peter Dangl, Puma representative, adding that “its design skilfully mixes modernity and heritage, like Morocco which advances with pride in international competition.

For Royal Air Maroc, whose collaboration with the team goes back several years, this moment also has special meaning.

“Supporting the Atlas Lions also means flying the colors of Morocco across the world,” underlines Abdelhamid Addou, president and CEO of Royal Air Maroc (RAM).

This alliance, which is based on common values ​​of determination and excellence, is part of the company’s global vision of promoting Morocco internationally. For its part, Planet Sport, as a major partner of the FRMF, is also adding its stone to the building by participating in this project.

“This jersey is the result of teamwork, reflecting the collective spirit that characterizes the Atlas Lions,” explains Yassine Mejbar, marketing director of Panet Sport.

Echoing the Moroccan identity, the new jersey designed by Abderrahmane Trabsini, designer of the Daily Paper brand, reflects a subtle balance between tradition and modernity. Inspired by the traditional geometric patterns of zellige and featuring the five-pointed star of the national flag, this design gives the jersey a strong identity rooted in culture, without sacrificing a contemporary touch. Its official launch was also an opportunity to rekindle the passion that drives the players and their commitment to proudly wearing the colors of Morocco on the international stage. The FRMF and its partners aim to extend the momentum initiated during the World Cup, in order to inspire future generations.
