The trial of five 2018 Canada Junior Team (JT) players accused of sexual assault will officially begin on April 22.
That’s what a judge decided on Tuesday. The magistrate refused the proposal to hold the trial in September 2025. The case was the subject of preliminary hearings this summer, but the information heard during these is subject to a publication ban.
Former National Hockey League (NHL) players Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Carter Hart and Alex Formenton are each charged with sexual assault, while Michael McLeod faces two counts of sexual assault, including one in relation to assisting another person to commit the offence.

The alleged facts date back to June 2018. At that time, the five members of ÉCJ allegedly committed a gang rape in a London hotel room after a gala celebrating their winning the gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championship. from the previous winter.
The five players are unrestricted free agents in the Bettman circuit, all of whom were released by their respective teams. However, Dube and McLeod signed contracts with teams in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). The second, however, was released by his Russian circuit team in October.
