It’s overwhelming“, indicates Romain Elie during his presentation to the press. The Isarien is appointed coach of ASBO (N2) this Tuesday, November 12, 2024 by the general manager of the club, Sébastien Piocelle. He explains: “It was obvious, for his human side, his legitimacy as a player, and then he is close to the group. It’s a time saver. I like his fighting side, he has the weapons.”

Romain Elie is a pure Beauvaisian. Born in the town of Oise, he also received his football training there. His professional career took him to Boulogne-sur-Mer, Nîmes and Charleroi in Belgium. He returned to Beauvais in 2020 and retired as a player in 2023. The club allowed him to become an assistant that same year under the direction of Christophe Taine.

After a draw against Balagne, the latter was sidelined by the club’s steering committee on Saturday November 9, 2024. Coach for more than a year at ASBO, Christophe Taine did not meet the sporting objectives set by its leaders. Sébastien Piocelle says: “He had one year left on his contract and an option year if he managed to place the team in the top six. After a meeting against AS Villers-Houlgate, he asked me that this additional year be granted to him directly. As if he didn’t believe it was possible to achieve the goals we had set for ourselves. It made me think. And then, there were different athletes and stumbling blocks on the day-to-day running of the club.“.

I’m waiting for the players’ state of mind.

Romain Elie, ASBO coach

Romain Elie is already focused on the next sporting events and on his group. “There is quality in this squad otherwise I would have said no for the position. I’m waiting for the players’ state of mind. For the rest, I will put my ideas in place. Like when I was a player, I’m going to do it with my heart“. The club is currently 12th in Group C of National 2. It remains with a draw and a defeat. The coach will have to turn things around to move up the rankings.

The only problem in this announcement for the ASBO is that Romain Elie does not hold a coaching diploma. It is mandatory to coach at this level in French football. The club will therefore have to pay a fine for each match where the Isarien is on the bench. An additional difficulty for the club which is not in a good financial situation. The managers will also pass in front of the general management control department on November 26, 2024.

The first sporting event is coming at full speed for Romain Elie. His career as head coach will officially begin on November 16 against Chantilly in the Coupe de France.
