Stade Rennais formalized, this Monday, the arrival of Jorge Sampaoli on the Breton bench until 2026. The 64-year-old Argentine coach succeeds Julien Stéphan. If the latter's ouster did not surprise anyone, given the Reds and Blacks' difficult start to the season in the championship, Sampaoli's appointment was even more so. Asked by BUT Football Club on the arrival of the former coach of Olympique de Marseille, Rolland Courbis was perplexed about his success in Rennes.

« Quite honestly, I would never have thought for a single second that a coach like Sampaoli could sign for this club! We will see if he will really revolutionize the club from top to bottom. But, already, we will still see what he will be able to do with all the recruits arriving this summer. For the moment, I'm trying to judge the level of this team, but I can't.said the former Rennes coach (2016). I'm still waiting to see. There, I see two or three players capable of being interesting, but I see all the others very average. I don't see any complementarity between them. By recruiting so many players in the offseason, most of them foreigners, it should come as no surprise that it doesn't work. The most surprising thing would ultimately have been if it worked. There is enough money in Rennes to recruit two or three important players in the winter. We'll know better later. We will already see who the starting goalkeeper is… But, as it stands, I don't see what miracle Sampaoli can achieve with the same squad as Julien Stéphan this season. »
