Good news for residents of the Eaux-Claires and Mistral districts in , a new cultural and sporting venue opened its doors this Tuesday, November 12. The space is a large library with access to novels, mangas, comics, video games… But that’s not all, visitors can also enjoy a climbing wall and a dojo.

Between 2016 and 2017, several libraries were closed in Grenoble for economic reasons as part of Mayor Eric Piolle’s (Les Écologiste) “safeguarding public services” plan.

This new place is set up in the premises of the former Plateau, an emblematic place in the Mistral district which closed in 2023. A closure which caused controversy among the inhabitants of the district.

The 25,000 books from the old Eaux-Claires – Mistral library (considered too small by the municipality) were therefore moved to these new premises. “Our ‘Welcome to the library’ approach aims to affirm the public service of culture and libraries as both a local anchor and a place of everyday life”, explains Lucille Lheureux, culture assistant at Grenoble town hall.

Another particularity, video games will be highlighted in this project and a large number of events, such as comics workshops or body awareness workshops, will be organized in the coming weeks.
