Souleymane Faye, this young Senegalese striker who is knocking on the door of the Real Betis first team

An indisputable starter since the start of the season, the young Senegalese striker has impressed with the Spanish D3 subsidiary and his performances have not gone unnoticed by the staff of the Real Betis first team.

In Spain, Real Betis, although training young talents, is not one of the most renowned clubs to trust its young players coming from the reserve team. However, certain nuggets, like Rodri Sánchez – who left for Al-Arabi (Qatar) during the last summer transfer window -, have had their chances in recent years, particularly since the arrival of Manuel Pellegrini. The Ivorian international Paul Akouokou, José Manuel Calderón, Enrique Fernández, Kike Hermoso, Juan Cruz, Félix Garreta and Fran Vieites, «The Engineer» started quite a few “canteranos” from Real Betis.

Souley Faye, next on the list?

Among these young players trained among the residents of the Benito-Villamarín Stadium and who have managed to discover the first team in recent months also include the striker Assane Diao Diaoune (19 years old) and the left side defender Nobel Mendy (20 years old), all born in the Land of Teranga. This is because the native of Ndongane and that of Guédiawaye won over at Betis Deportivo before making the jump to the “big guys”. And precisely, speaking of evidence in the reserve team of Green and whitethe name of Souleymane Faye logically stands out at the start of the season on the Heliopolis side.

Goodbye to the Segunda RFEF (Spanish D4), Betis Deportivo joined the Primera RFEF (D3) at the end of last season, to the delight of its young players, who hope to shine in this third Spanish division in order to evolve at the highest level of the club. And at Real Betis, Souleymane Faye (21) could join the first team sooner than expected. The young Senegalese striker, African U20 champion with the Cubs during the last CAN in the category, has indeed had a great start to the season with the subsidiary, coached by Arturo García Muñoz, known as Arzu.

6 goals, 2 assists in 11 matches

Saturday afternoon, at the Ciudad Deportiva Luis del Sol, the former resident of the Galaxy Academy in Dakar, played against the opposing goalkeeper to score one of the goals in the big victory against Alcoyano (4 -0), synonymous with a third success in a row for Betis Deportivo. If they are undefeated since the first day of Primera RFEF and a defeat at home against CF Intercity (0-3) and are leaders of the Championship, the young Betis also owe their good performances to Souley Faye. Six goals and two assists in eleven games: not bad for someone who only scored twice in 18 D4 games last season.

“He’s a player who understands another side of the game, like playing from behind. He handles the ball with both feet, is decisive in front of goal and has many qualities in dangerous areas. He is in a very strong moment,” confided his coach Arzu, after the victory against Alcoyano. Often aligned on the right wing but also capable of playing on the left wing and as a center forward, “Jules” impresses with his maturity, his versatility and demonstrates sobriety and efficiency. His dribbling skills and his burst of speed allow him to be a constant threat to the opposing defense, he who does not shy away from defensive tasks.

Manuel Pellegrini, the coach of Real Betis, has regularly made it known: the young people in the reserve team are part of his plans, provided they perform. So, if Souleymane Faye were to confirm his recent performances, there is no doubt that he could taste the joys of LaLiga, or even the Coupe du Roi or the Conference League, in the weeks to come. This is especially true since the Verdiblancos first team has struggled offensively since the start of this season. While the Senegalese striker has already participated in some training under the former Manchester City and Real Madrid coach, he is impatiently awaiting his opportunity.
