A former Maple Leafs goalie to support Montembeault?

The Montreal Canadiens, who have faced several problems in front of their goals since the start of the season, could turn to a veteran such as James Reimer, placed on waivers by the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, to support Samuel Montembeault.

Obviously, if this is the plan, the Habs should send Cayden Primeau on waivers in order to give his place to Reimer. Primeau, who has been struggling since the start of the campaign, was removed from the game against the Buffalo Sabers on Monday after allowing five goals on 14 shots.

As for Reimer, he signed a one-year deal with the Ducks this summer. However, the good performances of Lukas Dostal and the return to play of John Gibson ensured that the 36-year-old goalkeeper only played two games with the Californian team in 2024-2025.

In 503 career games in the National Hockey League, Reimer posted a 215-179-63 record, a 2.89 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage with the Toronto Maple Leafs, San Jose Sharks, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings and Ducks.
