the unthinkable “Ironman at home” by Valtteri Bottas

Valtteri Bottas, Finnish Formula 1 driver for Sauber, had fun completing a long triathlon at home, between two races.

In case there was still any doubt: Formula 1 drivers demonstrate exceptional physical condition. Valtteri Bottas (35 years old) demonstrated this again in a remarkable way by completing an impressive “Ironman at home”. The Finn completed this challenge by using his swimming pool to do the 3.8 kilometers of swimming, an exercise bike for the 180 kilometers of cycling and finally a treadmill to complete the 42.2 kilometers of running.

Published on November 9, a week after the last Grand Prix, contested in São Paulo in Dantean conditions, a video published on his Instagram account shows his performance during which he clearly took a certain pleasure.

Champion cardio

Result: 10:59 to complete the three events. In detail: 1h05 for swimming, 5h29 for cycling and 4h23 for the marathon. But what particularly impressed connoisseurs was its cardio data. On the treadmill for the final part of the challenge, his sensor recorded an average of 129 beats per minute. A figure which demonstrates a certain endurance and ability to withstand the effort, and which is not far from what he displayed in his swimming pool, namely an average of 119 beats per minute.

Valtteri Bottas will soon have more time to improve his good performance: the Sauber team, banking on Brazilian novice Gabriel Bortoleto, has decided not to renew his contract which ends at the end of this season. A decision which could hasten the end of his career in Formula 1.
