Two weeks after the surprising departure of Michel Laplante, the Capitales this time surprised no one by announcing that Charles Demers would take over as president.
Demers has spent the last 12 years with the organization in various roles, including as general administrative director. Last January, he was named vice-president.
“We needed someone who shared our values, with blue and yellow running through their veins. Our reflection did not take long. Michel had been preparing it for years. It will not only ensure continuity, but it will take the Capitals elsewhere,” noted owner Philippe Tremblay.
A privilege
A true jack-of-all-trades in the team, he remained involved in sales, marketing, analysis and customer experience. He also lent a hand to manager Patrick Scalabrini in baseball operations.
“The Capitals represent much more than a professional baseball team to me. It represents the adventure of a lifetime,” said the new president.
The Capitals have won the Frontier League championship for the last three seasons.
When announcing the departure of Michel Laplante, Charles Demers cited the massive investments in Stade Canac, the fact that the league could increase to 24 teams within two years, as well as several improvements to come in the coming months such as being its main short-term challenges.
