Atlanta United achieved a major feat by eliminating Leo Messi’s Inter Miami in the quarter-finals of the Eastern Conference of the MLS playoffs. Led by a brilliant Jamal Thiaré, author of a decisive double, the Georgian franchise snatched a 3-2 victory at Chase Stadium, securing its place in the semi-finals.
Atlanta, which had lost the first match of the series, was able to bounce back on its field to equalize with a 2-1, and Thiaré sealed the outcome of the confrontation. While Miami took the lead in the 17th minute thanks to a deflected Messi shot taken by Matias Rojas, the Senegalese striker responded with two blistering goals in the 19th and 21st minutes, turning the tide in favor of the Five Stripes.
Despite a goal from Messi in the 65th which brought the score level, Atlanta regained the advantage once and for all thanks to Bartosz Slisz in the 76th. After a difficult season ending in ninth place in the play-offs, Atlanta is now preparing to face Orlando City on November 24 in the semi-finals, determined to continue this momentum thanks to their Senegalese striker in great shape.
