For the first time since 2001, the Masters takes place without Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or even Novak Djokovic. The 37-year-old Serbian could have participated in this tournament which he won seven times but he decided to end his season.
Jannik Sinner is guaranteed to end the year in 1st place in the world. He has picked up seven titles – including the Australian Open, the US Open and three Masters 1000 – in 2024, and his margin over his runner-up Alexander Zverev is more than 3,600 points.
Zverev an outsider no 1
Sinner’s announced rival for years to come, Carlos Alcaraz also shone this year. The youngest world No. 1 in history won the other two Grand Slam titles, signing a fabulous Roland-Garros/Wimbledon double by beating Novak Djokovic in the final on the London turf.
But the 21-year-old Spaniard is – as always so far – losing momentum after a season where he did too much. He certainly won a title this fall, in Beijing, dominating Jannik Sinner in the final. But he is not even a favorite in his group in Turin, this status going to Alexander Zverev.
Crowned in the Masters 1000 in Paris, Zverev is also the No. 1 outsider in this Masters. At 27, the German is still looking for his first major trophy. But he is comfortable in the ATP Finals, which he has already won twice, in 2018 in London and in 2022 for the first edition played in Turin.
