Given its solid start to the season and its seat as leader of JPL, Racing seems to have made the right choice by hiring Thorsten Fink.
Arriving from Limburg rival, STVV, where he had already impressed by doing very good work, Thorsten Fink made an excellent debut at the helm of Racing Genk this season.
Fink had improved the team’s play and launched several young talents. His style and vision seem to suit Limburgers perfectly, according to Dimitri De Conde. The latter spoke in the Terril Talks podcast.
“He immediately left a strong impression, which was important for Genk, especially after a disappointing season under Wouter Vrancken. Genk clearly needed an experienced coach, otherwise the club risked being left with a youngster again inexperienced coach Besides Fink, two other coaches were on the short list,” he explains.
Need an experienced trainer
“Genk had held talks with Ruud van Nistelrooy. Although he was a big name in world football, his experience as a coach was too limited, as he had only coached one season at PSV,” continued- he. Van Nistelrooy eventually became an assistant coach at Manchester United.
With Fink at the helm, Genk seem to have made the right choice… for the moment. But De Condé is satisfied and hopes that the coach can continue to develop the team as he is doing, in order to establish himself in the long term.
