Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews skated for the first time Saturday morning after suffering an upper-body injury against the Minnesota Wild last Sunday.
Matthews has missed his team’s last two games and will not play in Saturday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens.
The 27-year-old sniper, who has dealt with shoulder and wrist problems in the past, has five goals and 11 points in 13 games this season. He was placed on injured reserve Friday.
Tristan Jarry returns to the NHL
The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced the recall of goaltender Tristan Jarry from their Wilkes-Barre/Scranton farm club.
Jarry has played the last five AHL games for conditioning purposes. He obtained four victories in addition to having an efficiency percentage of .926 and a goals against average of 2.16.
Earlier in the season, Jarry had a difficult time in the Bettman Circuit. He had only won one game, posting an efficiency percentage below .900 and more than five goals allowed on average per game.
Alex Turcotte injured, Samuel Helenius recalled
Having his best career start to the season, Alex Turcotte was placed on injured reserve by the Los Angeles Kings. The 23-year-old center was, however, seen on the ice in practice earlier Saturday.
Los Angeles also urgently recalled Samuel Helenius from Ontario to the AHL. Konsta Helenius’ older brother has two goals and three points in eight games in the American League this season.
Sgarbossa and Chychrun as reinforcements, Milano on the sidelines
The Washington Capitals have recalled forward Mike Sgarbossa from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.
In addition, the Capitals removed defenseman Jakob Chychrun from the injured list, while forward Sonny Milano was placed on the injured list.
Sgarbossa played two games with the Capitals this season.
Dante Fabbro on waivers
The Nashville Predators placed defenseman Dante Fabbro on waivers on Saturday.
The 26-year-old guard has no points in six games this season.
The 17th overall pick in the 2016 draft has 16 goals and 72 points in 315 games in the Bettman circuit.
