Since the appearance of its name in 1922, Etoile Carouge FC had never fallen so low. It is May 16, 2016 and the draw conceded against the second team of FC Basel condemns the Geneva club to relegation to the fourth division (1st league). It seems a long time ago when the Stellians challenged the established order of Swiss football with cheekiness, cheekiness and a certain idea of ball play, necessarily technical and offensive to entertain the demanding public at the almost century-old Stade de la Fontenette.
Some feared that the traditional recipe for Carouge football would be diluted in the pot of amateurism. Yet here it is brilliantly revisited eight years later. After returning to the Promotion League in 2019 then the Challenge League this spring, Etoile Carouge is at the top of the second division standings with one point ahead of Thun, where the Genevans will have the honor of a shock at the top on Saturday at 6 p.m. .
