Clint Capela and Kyshawn George both suffered defeats on Friday in the NBA.
The Genevan and the Hawks were beaten by one point in Detroit (122-121), while the Valaisan and the Wizards lost more heavily in Memphis (128-124).
The Hawks’ defeat, the sixth in ten games this season, is frustrating. Atlanta, which was up to 24 lengths behind in the second quarter (55-31), gave in on a final basket from man of the match Cade Cunningham 8”5 from the end of the match.
Cunningham, who signed his third triple double in a row on Friday by accumulating 22 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds, then proved decisive on defense. The Pistons leader blocked the Hawks’ final shot, attempted with a ‘buzzer’ by inside Onyeka Okongwu.
Coming from nowhere, Atlanta only led once, 12”5 from the end of this game (121-120), after a shot from Trae Young (35 points, 13 assists). Clint Capela (7 points, 12 rebounds) had been ‘heating’ the bench for a long time, he who was not lined up at all during the last 18 minutes of the match.
17 points for George
Unlike Meyrinois, Kyshawn George did not appear in his team’s starting five on Friday. But the Valais ‘rookie’ was the player most used by his coach with 34 minutes spent on the Grizzlies floor. He also finished as the Wizards’ top scorer, as he did against the Warriors four days earlier.
George, who then reached the 20-point mark for the first time, scored 17 in Memphis. The Valais winger returned 6 of his 12 shots (3/8 at 3 points), adding 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. But his efforts were not enough to prevent the Wizards from a third defeat in a row, the fifth in seven matches.
