The Lion Cubs won the Ufoa U17 tournament in the best possible way. Facing Mali for the sub-regional final of the U 17 category, the Lion Cubs redoubled their efforts to come back to the score before winning the game. Faced with this brilliant performance, the president of the FSF, Me Augustin Senghor, took advantage of this opportunity to congratulate them and encourage them to increase their performances. “I would first like to congratulate you on this great victory against Mali. What you have produced in terms of football is enormous. At halftime, everyone who didn’t believe you could do it was discouraged. In the end, you did it. And the way you did it is just fantastic. This is how we expect Senegal from now on,” he spoke to the Lionceaux staff and some members of the FSF.
“You always have to think about the Lion that is emblazoned on the jersey you wear. And that’s what you showed by going all the way and winning the game on penalties. I praise the group discipline and the valorization of the symbols of the country. This is the first time that I see a trophy and medals awarded to a national team which sings not only the national anthem but the Youth anthem as well. It’s another trophy that you win in front of your predecessors. This is what it deserves,” continued Me Augustin Senghor who warns. “We are in the middle of the river but we have not yet reached the other bank. The objective is to continue working to play other, more prestigious finals. You have enormous room for improvement and for me, you have not yet provided 60% of your capabilities” added Me Senghor. According to him, these young people showed during this final that they were real Lions. “You do not yet understand the significance of the trophy won. History will remember that you are the Senegal national team which is the first to win a trophy at the Me Abdoulaye Wade stadium (…) We will get together somewhere next week with your Beach Soccer elders for a surprise because we will celebrate Senegalese football,” he concluded.
There is no doubt that both teams will receive rewards commensurate with their performance. It should be remembered that the Beach Soccer Lions are the first to win a continental trophy under the new regime of Bassirou Diomaye Faye. If it wasn’t for the austerity measures announced, the Beach Soccer Lions were going to taste the sweet delights of performance.
