Club Brugge scored a great 1-0 victory against Aston Villa on Wednesday evening. After the match, the excellent performances on the Blauw en Zwart side were almost too numerous to count on one hand. Yet a key figure for the defending champion hasn’t quite lived up to expectations.
Indeed, Andreas Skov Olsen once again struggled to leave his mark. The 24-year-old Dane himself admits, according to Nicky Hayen, that he is far from his best level currently. The Club is hoping for a quick return to form from Skov Olsen, not only for sporting reasons, but also for financial considerations.
Skov Olsen wants to leave
For several years, rumors of a transfer have multiplied around Skov Olsen, and his departure now seems to be getting closer. He is still under contract until mid-2026 with Club Brugge. If the Club wants to make a big transfer for the player, for which it had paid around 6.5 million euros, the time seems right.
The player himself would be looking for a new challenge. “He is unfortunately in a sort of marriage of convenience with the Club. Physically, he is still in Bruges, but mentally, he is already elsewhere and he is counting the days,” reports The Latest News. However, he did the defensive work against Aston Villa, a task which is not his strong point.
A big sum for the Club?
Skov Olsen also received compliments from Hein Vanhaezebrouck for his defensive commitment, although the latter also noted his relative discretion in possession. The winger’s performance therefore continues to divide opinions. Foreign recruiters also seem divided: despite good statistics, Feyenoord was the only club really interested last summer.
It remains to be seen who could come forward for Skov Olsen, author so far of 46 goals and 26 assists in 114 games for the Blauw en Zwart. Impressive figures which, according to the Club, justify a minimum price of 20 million euros, two million more than its current market value. It remains to be seen whether a club will be prepared to pay such a sum for this elusive talent.
