: 1 million subscribers, DAZN announces the color

Barely three months after acquiring the rights to Ligue 1 until 2029, DAZN is struggling to convince the general public to subscribe. The platform is also very far from its objective but is aiming for a key figure at the end of the season.

The end of the soap opera finally dawned at the beginning of August. After endless negotiations with potential candidates, the Professional League has entrusted the almost exclusive rights to broadcast Ligue 1 until 2029 to DAZN, which owns the live broadcast of eight of the nine matches each weekend. . Excellent news for the platform, which continues to develop in Europe and which hopes to attract a large number of people in the coming months. DAZN had also set a specific objective in mind, namely to reach at least one million subscribers by the end of the 2024/2025 financial year. For the moment, it's no secret that the mayonnaise is not taking hold and the broadcaster is struggling to increase its figures, despite a provisional promotional offer which aims to lower the price of its subscription.

DAZN still far from its goal at the start of the season

The figures for the first quarter of the current season are not reassuring for DAZN, which only has around 500,000 subscribers, far from its initial forecasts, according to several specialist sources. As the Team reminds us, on December 1, 2025, DAZN will be able to activate an exit clause to stop the broadcast of Ligue 1 at the end of next season rather than waiting for the end of its contract with the LFP planned for here five years. Several personalities from the world of football such as Cyril Linette have recently expressed their concern about Ligue 1, considered to be in mortal danger. The rights crisis put elite clubs in embarrassment this summer, as they were unable to anticipate the transfer window and plan the budget for the season. If DAZN leaves in the coming months, it will then be necessary to start from scratch. To avoid this, the latter still hopes to reach one million subscribers by May, but the task promises to be arduous. In any case, this is the new objective that the British platform has now set itself.
