Paris Saint-Germain would risk a fine deployment of a large “Free Palestine” banner in the Auteuil stand at the Parc des Princes, Wednesday during the Champions League match against Atlético de Madrid, exposes PSG to sanctions.
The ultras’ tifo in support of Palestine is controversial in France. Indeed, a huge “Free Palestine” banner was displayed, accompanied by the following message: “War on the field but peace in the world”, in the Auteuil stands at the Parc des Princes, during the Ligue des Princes match. champions between PSG and Atlético de Madrid (1-2).
Faced with numerous reactions, PSG affirmed that it was unaware of this initiative. As a reminder, in its regulations, UEFA prohibits “the dissemination or promotion of political messages by any means whatsoever as well as any other form of political action inside or in the immediate vicinity of the stadium during and after the match”.
The Parisian club’s explanations clearly did not convince the French Minister of the Interior, Bruno Retailleau, who insisted on recalling the importance of “preserve sport from any political interference”.
“This tifo had no place in the stadium, and these messages are prohibited by the regulations of the League and UEFA”added the Minister of the Interior.
Achraf Hakimi’s PSG could therefore expect a fine like several clubs previously such as Celtic Glasgow received a fine of 17,500 euros at the end of 2023 after the deployment of numerous Palestinian flags by its ultras in the stands .
