A new chance for Genevan Derek Kutesa in the Swiss team

Eight months later, here is Derek Kutesa again in the Swiss football team. Summoned for a rally in March and lined up against the Republic of Ireland for 25 not really memorable minutes, the Servette winger had since been shunned by coach Murat Yakin despite remarkable performances in the Super League. In October, the main person concerned was a little moved, suggesting that he could again review his choice of sporting nationality in favor of Angola. The Nati staff called on him to show patience, and this is rewarded today.

His name appears among the 26 on the last list of the year, that of the players who will have to ensure their maintenance in the first division of the League of Nations. In group 4, the Swiss team, which remains on three defeats and a draw, faces Serbia on Friday November 15 in Zurich then Spain on Monday 18 in Tenerife to try to avoid the last place in the ranking which would be synonymous with relegation – and a next edition peppered with significantly less prestigious matches. In fact, everything will be decided from the first of these two meetings. Any other result than a victory would be prohibitive.

Numerous changes

This important deadline, despite the relative prestige enjoyed by the latest UEFA competition, is approaching while many internationals are injured. Michel Aebischer, Becir Omeragic, Nico Elvedi, Ulisses Garcia and Ruben Vargas are unavailable, leading Murat Yakin to recall several players who were not part of his recent plans, such as Simon Sohm, Kevin Mbabu, Ardon Jashari and Noah Okafor. Returning from injury, Denis Zakaria will also be there. Like a Derek Kutesa who now hopes to add the honor of appearances to that of the only call-up.
