Champions League – D4: Ranking and results, including those of LOSC’s next opponents

The new format of the Champions League continued this week on its fourth day of the league phase. It concluded this Wednesday with the defeat of Saint-Germain against Atlético de Madrid (1-2). We take stock of the results achieved and the provisional ranking.

The excitement around the European games grabs us to the point of following hour after hour the evolution of the ranking of the regular season of the Champions League and its various results. Its fourth day was a new opportunity to follow these developments closely. Defeated for its first appearance in the competition, in Lisbon (2-0), LOSC has largely rectified its situation in recent weeks. Already authors of two exploits against Madrid clubs, the Mastiffs achieved a third this Tuesday by holding off Thiago Motta's Juventus (1-1). This draw gives them a valuable point and, with seven units on the clock, they would potentially only miss one success and three new points to reach the next round called “the play-offs”.

LOSC shone, like the majority of French clubs this week. Stade Brestois and AS Monaco won again, while Paris Saint-Germain continued its poor momentum on the European scene with a setback recorded at home against Atlético de Madrid (1-2).

All the results from the 4th day of the Champions League

This draw, pocketed with forceps, allows LOSC to position itself in fourteenth place with seven units on the clock and to keep pace with a large peloton made up of seven teams from tenth to sixteenth place. The positive goal difference of the Mastiffs (+1) allows them to place themselves at the heart of this group. Liverpool, undisputed leader, is the one and only team to remain on a perfect course of four consecutive victories. His men easily disposed of Bayer Leverkusen (4-0) in England. Sporting CP, AS Monaco, Stade Brestois and Inter Milan follow with ten units and an invincibility that continues.

Apart from the Reds, who could already be qualified for the round of 16 of the Champions League when LOSC travels to Anfield, LOSC's next opponents are placed in the second half of the table. Defeated by AS Monaco this Tuesday (0-1), Bologna has not yet recorded the slightest success in the competition and is the only team with a single point. The Italians, who were still led by Thiago Motta a few months ago, are 31st and narrowly ahead of SK Sturm Graz. The Austrians, who faced last season in the Conference League, were defeated in Dortmund (1-0) and have still not collected a single unit. They are 33rd at halfway. Finally, Feyenoord Rotterdam also lost, against RB Salzburg (1-3). The Dutch, after two losses and two successes, are in 21st position.

In addition to the case of LOSC, French clubs are continuing their good momentum, with the exception of Paris Saint-Germain. The capital club, surpassed by Atlético de Madrid (1-2) this Wednesday, is provisionally eliminated from the Champions League. With a success, a draw and two defeats, the Parisians are in 25th place with four small units on the clock. AS Monaco and Stade Brestois respectively beat Bologna and Sparta Prague (1-2). For the moment, three French clubs out of four have qualified for the rest of the competition.
