Champions League. Jules Koundé makes competition history with FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona has a string of great performances. After these victories against Bayern Munich (4-1) and Real Madrid (4-0) last week, the Catalan club crushed Red Star Belgrade (2-5) this Wednesday, November 6 in the league phase of the Champions League. A performance that he owes in particular to his French defender, Jules Koundé, author of a hat-trick of assists.

A first since Ousmane Dembélé

Barça is a scoring machine this season, and several teams have paid the price. Valladolid (7-0), Villarreal (5-1), Young Boys Bern (5-0), Sevilla (5-1), Real Madrid (0-4) and therefore Red Star (2-5) this Wednesday. If Hansi Flick’s men are so successful, it’s because they can count on an insatiable attacking trio. Robert Lewandowski (19 goals, two assists), Lamine Yamal (6 goals, 8 assists) and Raphinha (12 goals, 10 assists) together constitute the most effective trio in Europe. The German coach can also count on his French international defender, Jules Koundé. The Frenchman made a hat-trick of assists against Red Star, providing goals 3-1, 4-1 and 5-1 to Lewandowski, Raphinha and Fermín López.

A rare performance, since the former Girondist is only the 5th defender in history to achieve such a performance in the history of the LC1. Above all, no Frenchman has accomplished such a feat since Ousmane Dembélé, in 2016, then in the jersey of Borussia Dortmund.
