Senegalese Football is going through a prosperous period. After the success of the Lions in beach soccer at the Egyptian CAN, it is now the Lion Cubs U17 who shine by winning the UFOA-A tournament against Mali. Two victories obtained thanks to a strong mentality, as evidenced by the way in which Pape Ibrahima Faye’s team beat the Aiglons. The president of the Senegalese Football Federation, Me Augustin Senghor, is savoring the moment.
Following an intense final, the Cubs, trailing at half-time, were able to turn the situation around to win on penalties. Me Senghor expressed his admiration for the team spirit and determination of the players. “What I liked was your self-sacrifice and your determination not to give up,” he said. He also praised the national pride of the young players, referring to their singing of anthems after the victory.
The president nevertheless recalled that the journey was far from over, looking towards the next U17 CAN. He highlighted the team’s untapped potential, encouraging the players to continue their work. Before concluding, Me Senghor announced a surprise to come, promising a joint celebration with the beach soccer champions. “We are going to celebrate the two cups together,” he announced.
