Damian McKenzie returns to opener with All Blacks to face Ireland

In a remake of the quarter-final of the last World Cup, the Irish welcome the New Zealanders this Friday.

New Zealander Damian McKenzie will return to the position of fly-half to challenge Ireland on Friday in Dublin. It was one of two changes made due to injuries to the team that secured a narrow victory against England. McKenzie, who spent much of the year in the number 10 shirt, replaces Beauden Barrett, who was unavailable due to concussion suffered during the 24-22 victory at Twickenham.

Asafo Aumua replaces Codie Taylor, who also suffered a concussion last weekend, at hooker. The rest of the team is unchanged, with wingers Mark Tele’a and Caleb Clarke forming a back triangle with fullback Will Jordan. Jordie Barrett and Rieko Ioane form the center pair and Cortez Ratima retains his place at scrumhalf.

“This is a highly anticipated match that promises to bring all the intensity and passion we expect from these two rugby-loving nations, both on and off the field.”said New Zealand coach Scott Robertson. “We are very happy with the way the group has developed this week and we quickly focused on this match after England. We have trained well and the players are fresh and ready to face the Irish team.”
