Moroccan international Adam Aznou enters the Bundesliga through the front door. Wearing the colors of Bayern Munich against FC Union 60 Bremen last Saturday for the ninth day of the German championship, he came on in the 80th minute, after the exit of the Canadian Alphonso Davies. The team came away with a big victory (3-0), thus maintaining its lead at the top of the championship.
After the match, coach Vincent Kompany congratulated the Moroccan international. “Adam has been excellent in training and with the national team. He can be proud of himself. Now he just has to keep working,” said the Bayern Munich coach. For his part, the young prodigy shared his enthusiasm regarding his debut in the Bundesliga.
On social networks, Adam Aznou felt that there was no “better way” to make his debut “than at the Allianz Arena stadium”, in front of Bayern supporters. “Very happy to have played my first minutes in the Bundesliga. Thank you to the coach for putting his trust in me and thank you for all the messages I received,” he wrote.
Several internationals playing with the Moroccan national team congratulated Aznou, including Achraf Hakimi, Abdelhamid Sabiri and Chadi Riad. Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl also praised the young player’s talent and his “immense potential”.
At 18 years and 5 months, Adam Aznou became the youngest Moroccan player to play in the Bundesliga, followed by his compatriot Ayman Barkouk from Mainz (18 years and 6 months), former Ingolstadt star Nassim Boujellab (19 years and 8 months) and Achraf Hakimi, previously at Borussia Dortmund (19 years and 9 months).
Born and trained in Barcelona, Adam Aznou joined Bayern Munich in 2022. After a season with the U17s, where he impressed with his talent, he was promoted to the U19s, where he scored three goals and provided four assists in 19 matches . He earns a place in the Youth League’s elite squad.
Since then, his career has taken a new step. Adam Aznou made his debut for the first team during a friendly match against FC Basel in January 2024. A few days later, he was retained in Thomas Tuchel’s squad for a Bundesliga match. He played with the Bayern Munich reserve team, before signing his first professional contract last May, for three years.
A player noted for both club and national team
In addition to shining at club level, Adam Aznou distinguished himself with the Moroccan national team. In August 2024, he was called up by Walid Regragui for the qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (CAN 2025) against Gabon and Lesotho. Before joining the Atlas Lions, Adam Aznou already played for Spain in U16 and U17, in addition to two appearances with Morocco U15.
On September 9, he made his debut for Morocco’s A team, which took over Lesotho (1-0). At 18 years and 99 days old, he became the youngest player to be called up for an official match for Morocco, surpassing Jaouad Zairi.
After this meeting, Walid Regragui praised the performance of Adam Aznou. “We must accompany him and follow him closely. But for me, it’s a great satisfaction. I spoke with him in the locker room and told him to keep his feet on the ground. I think we have gained a player of the future, and that is the objective that I aim for in these kinds of matches,” declared the coach.
A player as talented as he is versatile, Adam Aznou has several strings to his bow, with the ability to play in defensive midfielder or left winger.
