The New York Islanders head coach believed the play should have been called for offside before the Pittsburgh Penguins captain gave his team a 1-0 lead, but the linesmen ruled otherwise.
In the sequence, forward Noel Acciari seemed to be in an offside position as he had both feet on the playing surface very close to his team’s bench before making a change when the Penguins have entered the zone.
After reviewing the images on the UBS Arena scoreboard, “Casseau” raised his arms in the air while shouting his displeasure towards the referees.
The Islanders did not let this decision discourage them and ultimately won the duel 4 to 3 in a shootout.
This is the second time in three days that officials have allowed a controversial goal following a challenge. Sunday, a Tampa Bay Lightning goal against the Winnipeg Jets remained on the scoreboard even though goaltender Connor Hellebuyck was clearly hampered in his work.
