Gary Sheehan’s adventure in Olten ended on Wednesday. The Solothurn club announced the dismissal of the Canadian-Swiss and the commitment of Christian Wohlwend, who is rebounding after his dismissal in Ajoie.
Sheehan is paying for his team’s poor results since the start of the season. In 17 games, the Mice have only won 7 matches, and conceded 10 defeats, all in regulation time. Stuck at the bottom of the ranking, the Solothurns are 16 points behind the leading duo made up of La Chaux-de-Fonds and Basel.
Gary Sheehan took over as head coach in January after spending a few months as assistant to Lars Leuenberger. He led the Souris to the semi-final of the play-offs (4-3 defeat against the GCK Lions).
Christian Wohlwend will not have spent much time before finding a position in the squad of a Swiss team. He was dismissed on October 21 by HC Ajoie after a very complicated start to the season.
In its press release, HC Olten also informs that it has withdrawn its application for promotion to the National League. This means that only La Chaux-de-Fonds, Visp and Sierre are still contenders for promotion to the elite of Swiss hockey.
