It is an immense source of pride for this very young club created in 2023. The Football Academy section of the Saint-Ouen-de-Thouberville family and sports association (AFSSO) has signed a partnership with the FC Rouen (FCR) : “Our club is focused on the training and development of young people. And those who can break through, we don’t want to send them anywhere, but direct them towards trusted clubs like the FCR which will help us in the development of certain young people”, explains the president of the AFSSO Foot Académie, Alexandre Duroy.
And to formalize this partnership between the two clubs, a sponsor has been chosen. And not just anyone. Central defender and emblematic captain of the FCR who is playing in the National this season, Clement Bassin came, Wednesday evening October 30, 2024, to meet the young people of the AFSSO Foot Académie, during a small ceremony organized at the Saint-Ouen-de-Thouberville stadium.
For us, a sponsor must be a benchmark for our young people.
Clément Bassin is a historic FCR player. Arriving at the club in 2004, at the age of 10, the footballer has climbed through the ranks. At 16, he joined the CFA 2 team, then team 1 in 2013, after the club filed for bankruptcy. From the Honor Division to the National, Clément Bassin has always remained faithful to his favorite club.
On May 13, 2023, against Évreux, the 29-year-old defender scored the winning goal which allowed his team to validate the rise of the FCR in National. Like a symbol. On February 8, 2024, during the round of 16 of the Coupe de France, in a boiling Robert Diochon stadium, the FCR eliminated the great MonacoLigue 1 club, at the end of the penalty shootout. Trailing 1-0, FCR equalized just before half-time through Clément Bassin. The AFSSO Foot Académie has therefore chosen one of the idols of the FCR as its sponsor.
From 60 to 110 licensees
In 2023, for its first year of creation, the Thouberville club had 60 members. “This season, we have 110 spread across categories U7, U9, U11 and U13. And since this year we have had a team of veterans. » The youth teams are divided by level, but Alexandre Duroy affirms that “all young people are accepted. »
He adds that “ blossoming et respect of the child” are the priorities of the club which has seven educators. In addition to “purely football” training, the academy also wants to open the minds of young graduates by organizing outings. “Last year, we went on a trip to visit the Clairefontaine training center. »
In the coming months, Alexandre Duroy also plans to introduce other sports to young people: “Why not take them to watch Pro B matches of Rouen Métropole basketball or the Rouen Dragons in hockey. » To summarize: “We want to show that we are capable of doing great things with few resources,” concludes the president.
