The 10 best scorers in the history of the Champions League

Kylian Mbappé and Robert Lewandowski are both close to writing a new historical page in the supreme competition that is the Champions League.

The Big Ears Cup, as it is nicknamed, saw the greatest football legends pass before its eyes. The prestigious competition has been marked by great scorers in each era since its first edition in 1955-1956 with Alfredo Di Stéfano who shook the old nets of the European Champion Clubs’ Cup (its former name) in a Real Madrid which reigned on the roof of Europe: winner in 1955-1956, 1956-1957, 1957-1958, 1958-1959 and 1959-1960…

But who are the top scorers in the Champions League? In 10th place in the ranking, we find Mbappé who has already scored 49 goals in 76 matches (ratio of 0.64) at only 25 years old. He is the youngest player in the top 10. Just ahead of him, with the same number of goals (49) but a better ratio (0.84) in 58 games, we find Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stéfano ( 1953-1963, 396 matches, 308 goals). Then, in 8th place, there is Thierry Henry and his 50 goals in 112 games (ratio of 0.45) which Kylian Mbappé could equal and see surpass against AC Milan this evening.

Then, in 7th position, we have the eternal Thomas Müller, a true legend of Bayern Munich and the German team, who scored 54 goals in 153 matches. After him, in sixth place, we once again find a Real legend, the Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy who scored 56 goals in 73 matches. One Real Madrid legend can hide another. On the 2nd step of the podium, we find Lionel Messi and his 129 goals in 163 matches with FC Barcelona.

Finally, Cristiano Ronaldo is at the top of the rankings, on the throne of Europe, with his 140 goals in 183 matches. Furthermore, it should be noted that the Norwegian cyborg Erling Haaland is in sixteenth place in the ranking at only 24 years old with extraordinary statistics: 44 goals in 42 matches, a ratio of 1.05 for the one who comes close to big step from the top 10.
