Stan Wawrinka (ATP 148) lost on Tuesday in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Belgrade, against Serbian Laslo Djere (ATP 141), 4-6, 4-6.
After his great week in Stockholm, with a semi-final in mid-October, the 39-year-old Vaudois is struggling to reproduce the same results. Eliminated in Basel in the 2nd round, then in a Challenger in Bratislava, again in the second match, Wawrinka fell again on Tuesday.
Against the Serb ten years his junior, who also benefited from an invitation to Belgrade, Wawrinka lost his serve twice while the score was two all.
In the first set, Djere managed a break on the five chances he had, while the winner of three Grand Slam tournaments did not convert any of his three chances.
Despite passing 10 aces, Wawrinka suffered on his second balls. And opposite, the Serb was not clumsy on serve since he also managed 10 aces and scored 73% of the points behind his first ball. Moreover, in the second set, Stan Wawrinka had no chance to take the game on the opponent’s serve.
