One of the big absences from the Hall of Fame? Enzo Scifo puts things into perspective: “When we see the players inducted…” – Tout le football

Many legendary players were “left out” at the Hall of Fame gala on Monday. One of the most surprising absences is that of Enzo Scifo, who spoke to our microphone after the ceremony.

He was one of the big favorites to join the Pro League Hall of Fame this Monday. But Enzo Scifo4 times Belgian champion with Anderlecht, voted best young player of the 1986 World Cup and Golden Shoe in 1986, remained at the gates of the top 10.

The disappointment was of course perceptible in him after the ceremony. “There is a bit of disappointment, naturally. We always believe we have made history in our own way. But all the players here have done it,” put the former RSCA playmaker into perspective. “When we see the players inducted, there is no disappointment, only respect.”

Scifo probably paid for the fact that Sporting Anderlecht had 6 nominees, and therefore the votes were dispersed between the players. Legends such as Franky Vercauteren and Rob Rensenbrink, for example, also missed out on the Hall of Fame. “That might be it, yes,” he smiled. “I will always remain grateful to Anderlecht for having launched a career which made me part of the history of Belgian football.”

Enzo Scifo had not heard of this Hall of Fame until fairly recently. “I didn’t vote, I didn’t even know it existed, I was only notified a short time ago. It’s a great initiative, the players who made history deserve to be be honored.”

And since every year there will be two new inductees, it is not too late for the man many consider to be the best Belgian player in history. “It’s never too late (smile). But even if that’s not the case… You know, it’s in my image too, I’m a discreet person. I remain equal to myself- even, I’ve always been like that and that’s how I established myself in my career”, concludes Enzo Scifo, a fine player.
