Future manager of Manchester United, Sporting Portugal coach Ruben Amorim believes that Pep Guardiola is “the best coach in the world.” He made this statement before hosting Manchester City on Tuesday in the Champions League.

Still speaking as Sporting coach, the Portuguese told Sport TV that City had “the best team in the world and the best coach in the world”. Corrected in Lisbon by the Citizens in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League in 2022, Amorim then recognized that their coach was stronger. He considered on Monday that the gap separating him from Guardiola had not changed.
“I feel like a better coach (than at the time, editor’s note). Unfortunately, I feel that Pep Guardiola has also become an even better coach, so the gap is the same,” he said in the press conference ahead of Tuesday night’s match.
“Obviously Pep Guardiola was an inspiration for many of us coaches, like others,” added the 39-year-old technician. He was appointed coach of Manchester United on Friday, where he will take office next Monday to succeed Dutchman Erik ten Hag.
