After the termination of his contract with Fluminense, Marcelo came out of silence to thank his former club but also to release a philosophical sentence to say the least. According to the local press, the Brazilian would have had difficult relationships and problems with many people at the club.
Marcelo’s second spell at Fluminense is far from having a fairytale ending. After a clash with his coach Mano Menezes during the match against Gremio on Friday, the defender and Brazilian club announced the end of their collaboration “by mutual agreement between the two parties”. The 36-year-old finally spoke for the first time since announcing the termination of his contract, thanking those at the club.
“I had a great time at this club. Almost two years ago I decided to come back, motivated by the emotional connection with the team. I took part in unforgettable moments, like the victory of the first Copa Libertadores in the history of the club. My name will be immortalized in the retired Marcelo Vieira stadium, a place where our children from Xerém train every day. I will always carry Fluminense in my heart. wrote on Instagram, ending his post with an enigmatic sentence: “The truth like the sun will always rise.”
“Problems with everyone”?
The former Real Madrid player may not have appreciated the latest information coming from Brazil behind the scenes of the separation between the defender and the club. According to ESPN Brazil, Marcelo would have had difficult relationships not only with his teammates, the staff but also Fluminense employees. “He had problems with practically everyone,” says the Brazilian media.
The defender’s main problem would be his “inappropriate behavior” with the club’s management, who felt that the player was becoming “difficult to manage”. Marcelo reportedly even told young players that they didn’t have to “worry about physical training” if they had natural talent.
Returning to his training club in February 2023 after a failed stint at Olympiacos, he became the 14th player in history to have won the Champions League and the Copa Libertadores after the coronation of Fluminense in November 2023.
