The 72-year-old runner hospitalized after a heart attack at the La Baule marathon has died

The long-awaited event is mourned. A participant in the Côte-d'Amour marathon died on Sunday November 2 after being hospitalized following a heart attack.

He was taken care of by firefighters at 2:42 p.m., according to the bulletin from the departmental fire and rescue operational center. This 72-year-old man had just crossed the finish line, after almost six hours of effort for this 42-kilometer race, which started at 8:45 a.m. in the morning. After being immediately taken care of by the teams on site, he was transported in serious condition to the Saint-Nazaire hospital center. He died there.

60 rescuers

“Our teams are affected by this tragedy, explains the OC sport company, organizer. The runner was immediately treated by a doctor, everything was done to try to bring him back to life. »

The safety system around the race “was implemented with and validated by the SNSM”, indicates the organizer. Three doctors, 60 first aiders and nurses were mobilized throughout the race. To participate in the race, athletes must also present a medical certificate issued by a doctor, with the words “competitive race”.

In total: 13,000 people took part in the various events over two days. Including, on Sunday morning, 4,000 registered for the half-marathon (21 km) and 5,000 registered for the marathon.

The return of the Côte-d'Amour marathon after almost fifteen years of absence was an event in the Guérande peninsula. An hour before this tragedy, a first man aged 38 also suffered a cardiovascular arrest. He quickly recovered after the first aid actions of a third person, according to the firefighters.
