“Beach ball”, the mocking song aimed at Vinicius in Spain after the Ballon d’Or controversy

In several stadiums in Spain, supporters have taken up a popular refrain since Real Madrid boycotted the Ballon d’Or ceremony, believing that the award should have been given to Vinicius.

The victimization of Real made people happy in Spain. It offered Atlético and FC Barcelona fans a perfect opportunity to mock the reigning champion with a song that should pursue Vinicius for a long time to come.

“Beach ball, Vinicius, beach ball!”, the Spanish supporters took pleasure in chanting, this week in the Copa del Rey, and again this weekend in La Liga. The new fashionable refrain in Spain took over the stands of the Metropolitano and the Montjuic Olympic Stadium where Atlético and FC Barcelona were playing respectively this Sunday.

According to the Spanish press, it was planned that the song would also sound at Mestalla where Real Madrid were to travel to face Valencia, as part of the 12th day. But the meeting was postponed to a later date due to the deadly floods which hit the south-east of Spain in recent days.

Real Madrid behaved in an inelegant manner last week by refusing at the last moment to go to the 68th Ballon d’Or ceremony, after understanding that Vinicius would not be crowned there.

Considering this unfair, the Madrid club canceled the presence of its delegation at the Théâtre du Châtelet, in the process scratching UEFA and , who would have been in action, hand in hand, to make Vinicius lose.

These baseless accusations have caused deep unease in France, but also in Spain. “The victimization of Real has no reason to be and is exaggerated. I don’t know what path they are going on. We are experiencing this lack of elegance in Spain too,” the president reacted to L’Équipe. of La Liga, Javier Tebas, criticizing the posture adopted by the Madrid club.

An attitude all the more astonishing as Real Madrid managed to place five players in the top 10, and four in the top six, also winning several trophies, including that of best coach, awarded to Carlo Ancelotti. Thanks to its fifteenth victory in the Champions League, Real Madrid was logically crowned “best men’s club of the year”. But no one was present to hold up the trophy, which remained on the desk.
