Closing of the 1st edition of the national and international sport fishing competition

The 1st edition of the national and international sport fishing competition “Surf Casting No Kill” closed on Saturday in Dakhla.

Organized by the Oued Eddahab Provincial Tourism Council, with the support and in partnership with the Cherifian Phosphate Office (OCP), this sporting event, which kicked off on October 19, aims to strengthen the cultural and sporting attractiveness of the southern provinces of the Kingdom and to highlight the exceptional potential of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.

The competition was marked by the participation of Moroccan fishermen from the cities of Dakhla, Rabat, Tangier, Kenitra and Mohammadia, alongside professional fishermen from Mauritania, Tunisia, Italy, Turkey, Greece, and Spain.

In the men’s category, the Italian Zefferino Guidi took first place after recording 1,457 points and catching 32 fish, followed by the Turkish Ergan Hasan Kursad who obtained 1,108 points/26 fish, while the Moroccan Fathi Bouajaj won third place with a score of 1,034 points/21 fish.

Among women, the Moroccan Maria Benjelloun took first place after recording 679 points/15 fish, followed by the Tunisian, Inass Ajmi 597 points/14 fish, while the Greek participant, Konstantinou Eirini, occupied 3rd place after having recorded 275 points.

Furthermore, the Moroccan Abdelaziz Lazrak won the Prize for the largest fish, with a length of 50 centimeters.

The national and international sport fishing competition took place in two national rounds, from October 19 to 21, allowing the best Moroccan sport fishermen to compete in optimal fishing conditions.

This crucial stage served as a selection for the competitors who had the opportunity to represent Morocco during the international phase.

In addition to the sporting and environmental aspect, this competition also placed emphasis on the social dimension, through the organization of a medical caravan on October 25 and 26, focusing on free medical consultations and specialized care.

This sporting event benefited from the support of local authorities, the Regional Council, the Moroccan Society of Tourist Engineering (SMIT) and the Wilaya of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, as well as the Barid Al-Maghrib Group.

This event aims to create a new dynamic in the pearl of the South, known for its tourist assets and potential allowing it to establish itself as a privileged sporting destination.
